The gem of the southern Maine coast

Sure, it’s old money and the Bush compound, but it’s also home to the East Coast’s most acclaimed restaurant (The White Barn Inn), a lively lobstering industry, Maine’s most famous beaches and a vibrant arts community. The Kennebunkport Festival in early June kicks off a spirited summer season and Christmas Prelude in early December is one of the most celebrated holiday events in the USA. Dock Square (just a stroll away from Captain Fairfield Inn) offers diverse shopping opportunities and the most unique artisan ice cream shop in New England (Rococo).

About a ten minute drive from Captain Fairfield Inn, 50 Local is one of our top choices for an elevated, yet casual dinner.  The restaurant sources almost exclusively from local farms.  We've found each dish, cocktail, and dessert on their ever-changing seasonal menu to be impeccable.  Don't miss the $2 Tapas every Tuesday night.

Academe uses locally sourced and fresh ingredients and can be described as Brasserie-style, offering a variety of dishes including soups, salads, sandwiches, and entreés.

Offering ample outdoor waterfront seating, or a cozy fireplace for those chillier nights, Arundel Wharf serves up three different menus (Luncheon, Grazing, and Dinner), giving you a chance to try things like Crab Rangoon Dip, a Lobster Club or a shared plate of Sweet Potato Fries.

Aunt Marie's

Serving Maine-made Gifford's ice cream, the flavors here are traditional from Maple Walnut to Cookies and Cream. Try local favorite Muddy Bean Boots, a vanilla base swirled with caramel ripple and brownie bites. A fave of the Captain Fairfield Inn, this happening place is super-close to the inn and delivers on all fronts -- great cocktails, food and atmosphere. Bandaloop describes its cuisine as "organically grown local food with global flavors." We think that's spot-on.

Buttonwood Farm and LobsterBuzz-Worthy

(207) 286-5490   View Website   Buttonwood Ln, Kennebunkport, ME 04046

Hidden treasure only a mile from the inn, located off School Street (Route 9) in Kennebunkport.  It's the perfect place to buy lobsters steamed and ready to eat or live and ready to take home.  The price is right, and you'll buy directly from a local lobsterman!  While this place is legit, it's also not really a restaurant, so look elsewhere for a full menu.

Cape Porpoise Kitchen

(207) 967-1150   View Website   1 Mills Road, Kennebunkport, Maine 04046

A fully stocked shop with a large deli case and sandwich menu, plus extras like wine as well as local coffee and gelato.  You can sit inside to eat, but we recommend grabbing a Maine Crab Melt to go on your way from the inn to Goose Rocks Beach.

Kennebunkport Festival

A celebration of Maine and the town of Kennebunkport, the annual festival offers a variety of different venues including art, food, and wine.

On the Marsh Bistro

(207) 967-2299   View Website   46 Western Avenue, Kennebunk, Maine 04043

On the Marsh is a white tablecloth establishment with a creative atmosphere.  We especially love it for special occasions and holidays, or for their High Wine and Prix-Fixe Dinner offerings.  This restaurant has been known to thoroughly pamper our pregnant guests, and we can tell you that Table 16 is especially romantic.

Pier 77

(207) 967-8500   View Website   77 Pier Road, Kennebunkport, Maine 04046

Upscale but not overly formal, Pier 77 has a nice atmosphere for dinner.  It boasts panoramic ocean views and good choices for seafood lovers and everyone else. Because the menu is shared with its casual sister restaurant, The Ramp, you can order a burger while you enjoy Pier 77's polished vibe and piano player every night in season.

The White Barn InnNoteable

(207) 967-2321   View Website   37 Beach Avenue, Kennebunk, Maine 04043

The most formal and probably the most expensive restaurant in the area, we consider the White Barn Inn to be an excellent choice for a very special occasion. Among its accolades are AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five Star ratings. Expect impressively attentive service and a four-course prix fixe meal. Reservations are a must, as are jackets for gentlemen, and we highly recommend an advance discussion of any dietary restrictions.

Tides Beach Club

(207) 967-3757   View Website   254 Kings Highway, Kennebunkport, Maine 04046

Fresh surf and turf option located steps from the sand at Goose Rocks Beach. You might snag a seat with a water view to enjoy a craft cocktail and a fried oyster po' boy. The ambiance and food may seem fancy, but it's fine to dine in your beach uniform of flip flops and a T-shirt.
